A thug disguised as a pregnant woman tricked Nomsa Khoza and kidnapped her three-day-old baby.
Now Nomsa blames herself for being too trusting and wonders if she will ever hold baby Milton in her arms again.
To add salt to the wound, the thug answers the phone she stole when she abducted the baby, and torments her.
The 26-year-old met the “heavily pregnant” thug outside Phahameng Clinic in Mamelodi East, Tshwane on Tuesday last week.
Nomsa said the woman with a big stomach told her she had only days before she would be giving birth.
“She told me she needed help to withdraw money from a supermarket so that she could buy clothes for her unborn child,” said Nomsa.
“I told her I was also from Mozambique and didn’t have an ID but she asked me to go with her as she was in pain.”
When they got to the Tshwane Mall the woman asked her to go inside the supermarket and get somebody to use their ID to withdraw money.
“I left her with my baby, the baby’s bag and my handbag. A security guard agreed to lend me their ID to withdraw money but when I went to get the number from the woman she was gone with my baby,” she said.
She said attempts by the mall’s security to catch the thug failed.
“When she couldn’t be found, we went to look at the security cameras but she was wearing a hat and a mask, we couldn’t see her face,” she said.
“I called my phone and she answered. She just said relax sweetheart and dropped the call. That woman is sick. I don’t think she was even pregnant.”
She said although she opened a case, she still calls her phone every day.
“She answers the phone and sometimes it is answered by a male. They laugh at me, tell me to relax and call me honey, sweetheart or lovey,” she said.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said they have launched a manhunt for the woman who allegedly stole a baby boy from his mother.
Sello said the suspect is in her early thirties, black, is of medium build and speaks Zimbabwean Tsonga.
“She was last seen wearing black leggings, a black floral vest, hat, black mask and floppy shoes,” said Sello.
She appealed to people to not leave their children with strangers.
She urged anyone with information regarding the suspect or the stolen baby to contact the police on the following numbers: Detective W/O Mosekwane: 071 675 6774, Mamelodi SAPS: 079 890 7469, Crime Stop: 0860 10 111 or Crime line: 32211.
