Will Aguero convince Messi to stay at Barca?

Earlier in the year Manchester City confirmed that their leading goal scorer, Sergio Aguero will be leaving the club at the end of the season, igniting excited speculation about his destination.

According to football expert Guillem Balague, he has agreed a deal to play for Barcelona, in part because he wishes to play alongside his close friend and compatriot, Lionel Messi.

Messi, whose contract expires at the end of June this year, in point of fact came extremely close to leaving his own club last season.

However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta will be hoping Aguero’s move to the Catalan club will be reason enough for Messi to stay at the Camp Nou.

Messi, who is well into the winter of his footballing days, has spoken about ending his career with his boyhood club, Newell Old Boys.

Several reports have also linked the six-time Ballon d’Or winner with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Fans will be eagerly waiting to see if Aguero’s move will encourage Messi to stay with a Barcelona team that has faltered this season. They find themselves third in the league with just one game to go. They were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by PSG in the round of 16.

This season, the 33-year-old Messi has again proven that he is a vital player for the Spanish giants. He has scored 30 goals and made 11 assists in just 35 appearances this season.

Perhaps Barcelona need him to stay in Spain for as long as possible.
