Where’s Hugo Broos?

Extra Time: Safa president Danny Jordaan should come clean and tell the public what is really happening with Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, says Menzi Magubane.

Broos has been in Belgium, his native country, for a while now and there have even been unconfirmed reports suggesting that he has resigned as Bafana coach.

Safa rubbished those but the association is yet to clarify Broos’ whereabouts.

In July Bafana played more than three matches without Broos being present. Helman Mkhalele was in charge when Bafana played in the Cosafa Cup in Durban in July.

A few days later, Mkhalele was on the bench again when the national team was playing in the African Nations Championship qualifier against Comoros. Bafana came out on top in that match but they still have two more to play to secure qualification.

Caf have postponed the current 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to March next year, otherwise the qualifiers would have been played in early September.

It would have been interesting to see what happened had Caf not postponed the matches. Would Mkhalele have stood in for Broos again?

Jordaan needs to come clean. Bafana needs to have a game next month, as Fifa allows all national teams to play.

It’s Fifa’s calendar and Bafana will need to get a friendly match. The question is will Broos be there or not?

Jordaan we need answers from you. The public needs to know. Will Mkhalele stand in for him again if Safa manage to get a friendly match for Bafana.

The new DStv Premiership season has started and players will be in action again. In short Bafana selection will get players who are already in motion but where is the coach?

Bafana needs a coach – and if Broos isn’t coming back, it has to be somebody else.
