Look out for newcomer TV presenter Yolanda Buthelezi at this year’s South African Music Awards.

The rising young star from Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, says winning the Sofnfree Spotlight competition was the realisation of a lifelong dream of wanting to be a TV presenter.

This Saturday on SABC 1, Yolanda will go behind the scenes to interview artists Sjava, Buhle Smith, Kamo Mphela, Nomcebo, Bucy Radebe, Big Zulu, Blaq Diamond, and gospel singer Hle among others.

“This year’s awards have been diverse and showed the incredible talent in our country,” Yolanda said ahead of the ceremony.

“Getting to know artists away from their careers was refreshing. Finding out what they love, gave me another perspective on their lives.”

She loved interviewing Hle, Nomcebo, Sho Madjozi, Reign Africa and Bucy Radebe – who are nominated for the Female Artist of the Year.

“It was an honour meeting humble and down to earth women who are gifted and talented,” she said.

Nomcebo Zidode, who is nominated in the female artist of the year category, said it took hard work and tears to get the nomination.

“There was a time when I thought I would not make it because life was tough. But I’m here, happy to be nominated with such great women and powerful singers,” she said

Gospel singer Hle added: “The glory of God made this possible. Doing what I love while worshipping brings me joy. Winning would mean a lot to me but being nominated means someone is listening to the work that we do.”

Uzugcin’impilo yam’ singer Bucy Radebe says after the tough lockdown, South Africa deserves a big celebration.

“I’m happy and also emotional to be part of such a prestigious award ceremony.”

The award ceremony will be aired on SABC 1 at 8pm on Saturday.
