- Young kayaker Adrian Simancas thought he would die when a huge whale swallowed his kayak in Chile.
- The man’s father caught the scary moment on camera while telling his son to stay calm.
A whale turned a peaceful kayak trip into a nightmare when it swallowed a man’s boat off the coast of Chile.
Adrián Simancas, 24, was paddling in the Strait of Magellan when a huge humpback whale came up from under the water and took his yellow kayak into its mouth.
For a few terrifying seconds, Simancas thought the whale had eaten him.
“I thought I was dead,” said Simancas, who was stuck inside the whale’s mouth. Luckily, the whale spat him out into the icy water moments later.
His father, who was in another kayak nearby, filmed the scary moment. He tried to keep his son calm by saying, “Stay calm, stay calm.”
But Simancas’s troubles weren’t over. After escaping the whale’s mouth, he still had to battle the freezing waters to get back to shore.
He worried about getting too cold in the icy water and feared for his father’s safety as they both tried to reach land.
In the end, both father and son made it safely to shore, happy to have survived their close call with the giant whale.
