After a frantic search for the juvenile tiger that was running around Johannesburg, many authorities and news sources confirmed that, thankfully, the animal had been captured.
But that was yesterday. Now it appears that that may not be the case. New information from the NSPCA on Tuesday confirmed that the tiger had not been found.
Ann Makgato, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson told Scrolla.Africa on Tuesday that they did not know what to believe.
“The new information which emerged on Tuesday conflicts with the reports I received yesterday. We are following the matter closely and will provide an update once we receive more information,” she said.
Jade De Bruyn, Secretary of the Edenvale SPCA said they can’t confirm anything.
“But we have not seen nor captured the tiger,” said De Bruyn.
“As soon as we have more information we will let you know.”
On Monday the young tiger was captured on CCTV footage escaping from its cage. Later images appeared showing a sedated tiger being treated and reports said the animal had been taken to Johannesburg Zoo.
This is the second tiger that has escaped after the tiger named Sheba escaped from its cage in a residential area in Walkerville south of Johannesburg.
Sheba the tiger was shot dead after officials had tried to recapture the animal.
