Shop owners in Naledi, Soweto, are angry because they say the government treats them differently from foreign shop owners.
This comes after six children died from eating bad food bought at a foreign-owned shop.
Local owners told Scrolla.Africa they face tougher rules. They must pay R800 for a licence to trade and keep their shops very clean, but they say foreign shops don’t follow these same rules.
“Health inspectors check our shops every three months. If we do something wrong, we get fined or must close. But foreign shops stay open even when they break rules,” says shop owner Nomthandazo Zwane.
In other news, heavy rain caused flooding in Kariega for the second time in only a few months.
Pastor Mboro’s mother-in-law fears for her safety since he was released on bail.
Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie defended Chris Brown’s concert, with a petition going around for it to be cancelled.
Radio host Pearl Maseko leaves Ukhozi FM after a fight with a co-worker.
