He evaded arrest for over a month and got too comfortable to be careful.
So when his friend was nabbed by the cops while the two were at a tavern, he followed the police van to the Mamelodi East police station and demanded to know what was going on.
His actions blew his cover and he was arrested on the spot. The man, aged 31, had been wanted for an assault case since July.
The friend’s girlfriend, who asked not to be named, told Scrolla.Africa she had opened a case against her boyfriend, who had assaulted her last week.
“The police found my boyfriend parked outside a tavern with his friend and arrested him. Once at the station, in front of us, his friend demanded to know why my boyfriend had been arrested.”
She said she told the police that she had also witnessed her boyfriend’s friend assaulting a man in July. When the police checked the system they realised he was a wanted suspect.
The two friends were both charged with assault.
The woman’s aunt said that the boyfriend was so violent that the whole family was scared of him.
“Her boyfriend would come with his friends to insult us and threaten us. Now that they have been arrested we hope they will spend a lot of time in jail because they might blame us for their arrest and come for us.”
Mamelodi East Police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane confirmed that the suspect who had been evading arrest had been arrested at the police station for assault.
“The suspect will appear again in court on Monday 5 September,” he said.
