Visa denial ends Ayra Starr’s Mzansi shows

Ayra Starr’s much-anticipated South African takeover is no longer happening.

Just when fans in Cape Town and Johannesburg were gearing up to groove with the Nigerian sensation this month, the shows have been cancelled.

Ayra and her crew found themselves in a tight spot as their visa applications were rejected.

“We regret to announce the cancellation of both ‘In the City Ayra Starr’ Shows scheduled for Joburg and Cape Town, South Africa on 16 and 17 February 2024,” an official statement explained.

“Regrettably, as has happened numerous times with other artists from West Africa, through no fault of their own, visas were denied.”

The event organiser claimed tickets would be refunded within the next week.

The comment section was full of bummed-out fans and industry insiders. Influencer Kim Jayde kept spirits high with a hopeful message: “Obviously so disappointing, but we look forward to putting on so many exciting shows throughout the year!”

Meanwhile, South African DJ Lady Du is in disbelief.

“What Visa South African never,” echoing the shockwaves felt by many.
