Well-known South African actor Glen Gabela, famous for playing Pastor Mdletshe on Uzalo, has shared an emotional message asking for help.
He said he is battling depression, has no money, and is struggling to survive.
In a video that has spread online, Gabela is seen crying and showing that his fridge contains nothing but water.
He said he only wants a decent life and hopes to work in the film industry again so that young actors do not end up in the same difficult situation as many older actors.
The 67-year-old actor said he has been without work since 2018, when he left Uzalo.
He explained that this has made life very hard for him and has affected his health.
He recently had a heart attack, which doctors said was caused by stress and depression.
Gabela said many veteran actors die poor and have to beg for help. He stressed that he does not want to be rich, only to live with dignity.
He is now working as a scriptwriter and producer and has more than 21 scripts ready for TV and film. However, he does not have the money to develop them.
He has spoken to some businesspeople but has not yet secured proper funding.
For now, he says what he needs most is a job so he can support himself and continue to work in the arts.
