Manchester United handed Arsenal their first home loss of the season, edging a 3‑2 thriller at the Emirates on Sunday and throwing the Premier League title race wide open.
A Lisandro Martínez own‑goal put the Gunners ahead, but Bryan Mbeumo quickly levelled after a Martin Zubimendi error and Patrick Dorgu’s strike gave United the lead early in the second half.
Arsenal’s set‑piece strength salvaged a 84th‑minute equaliser from Mikel Merino, only for Matheus Cunha to smash a late winner from outside the box, sealing United’s second straight win under Michael Carrick and lifting them into the top four.
Earlier in the day, Aston Villa claimed a 2‑0 win at Newcastle, their first at St James’ Park in 21 years, moving level on points with Manchester City and just four behind Arsenal.
Emiliano Buendía’s long‑range strike and Ollie Watkins’ late header kept Villa’s outside title hopes alive.
Chelsea added to Crystal Palace’s woes with a 3‑1 victory, while Nottingham Forest boosted their survival bid with a 2‑0 win at Brentford.
On Saturday, Liverpool struggled again with a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth keeping the pressure on manager Arne Slot.
The defending champions find themselves outside the top four having yet to win a league game in January.
Reds fans will hope to see better in Europe on Wednesday when they take on Qarabag in their final league phase encounter with a crucial top eight finish still on the cards.
