Manchester United have made some surprising cost-cutting decisions as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s financial review.

The club have cut back on expenses, including taking away lunchboxes for matchday staff and reducing the number of programmes given to corporate fans.

Previously, agency staff working on matchdays received a lunchbox with a sandwich, cereal bar, crisps, and a soft drink. But during United’s first match of the season against Fulham, staff suddenly found that this was no longer the case.

Some were offered food that seemed like leftovers from corporate areas, though the club said the food was extra portions prepared for staff.

Another issue is that some workers had to eat in areas set up too close to toilets.

“They’ve put a dining table right next to four toilet cubicles,” said one worker.

“You come out of the cubicle, and someone is eating right there.”

The club responded by saying staff can choose to eat in a quieter area with a nearby bathroom, but many are still unhappy, Daily Mail reported.

Corporate fans, who pay a lot to watch matches from private boxes, were also surprised by the changes.

Previously, each guest received a matchday programme, but at the Fulham game, only five programmes were given per box of ten.

One fan said: “Considering how much we pay, not getting a programme each seems very stingy.”

The club explained that they reduced the number of programmes because many were being thrown away and now offer a digital version instead.

Other cuts have included removing private chauffeurs, cancelling company credit cards, and making staff pay for their own transport to the FA Cup Final.
