Defending champions Manchester United put Crystal Palace to the sword while Wolves and Luton were shocked in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third round action.
The Red Devils put in their best performance of a so-far disappointing season, as they dominated Roy Hodgson’s side in front of an appreciative Old Trafford faithful.
It took just 20 minutes for the momentum to lead to a goal, with Facundo Pellistri and Diogo Dalot linking up well for Alejandro Garnacho to break the deadlock.
Just over five minutes later, Mason Mount would be involved, as the Englishman provided the assist for Casemiro’s fourth goal of the campaign.
The Brazilian is now United’s top goal scorer this season, with 20 goal involvements since joining the club 58 appearances ago.
Palace looked lost and never seemed likely to, in any way, get back into the game.
Shortly after the break, Casemiro was involved again to set Anthony Martial up for what would be the icing on the cake of another knockout win.
United will discover their next opponents in the fourth round draw on Wednesday.
In Tuesday’s other results, Premier League sides Wolves and Luton Town were handed early away exits at the hands of Ipswich and Exeter.
Championship high rollers Ipswich came back from 2-0 down to win while a late Demetri Mitchell goal was enough for Luton to go crashing out at St James’s Park.
