- She started in 2019 after planning family events. The businesses help her survive without employment and support four other dependants.
Fridah Khoza is 39 years old. She is married with three children.
She runs Kwetsima Glam Events. The business handles weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, unveilings, romantic picnics, flower arrangements and balloon garlands.
Khoza goes to customers’ venues to decorate. She delivers or couriers flowers.
She also runs Kmv Fragrances. The business sells oil-based perfumes and car diffusers to retail customers and resellers.
Khoza started Kwetsima Glam Events in 2019. Before that, she planned family events at home.
“Whenever there’s a party at home I was the one planning and making sure that everything goes accordingly,” she says.
At the time, she had no full-time job. She started small. She rented most of her equipment and used savings from previous events.
“I only had a few items when I started,” she says.
She has no full-time employees. She calls casual workers when there is an event.
Both businesses help her cope. She says they help her a lot while unemployed.
Khoza faces challenges. She says owning her own furniture is difficult. Marketing the business is hard. Some clients negotiate prices heavily.
She keeps going. She wants to train people interested in decor, balloon setups and flower arrangements. She wants her own venue where people can host events.
She has advice for others who are struggling.
“Learn a skill that will help you have an income, something that you know you are good at and will love doing, not for the sake of money,” she says.
