Ukhozi FM traffic presenter yanked for having a “big head”

Ukhozi FM listeners were left wondering when they didn’t hear their daily dose of traffic updates this week.

Every morning on the Vuka Breakfast show, co-hosted by DJ Sgqemeza and Mroza Buthelezi, they are used to getting reliable updates from Ayanda Msweli.

To their surprise, the updates were not aired, leaving the listeners to puzzle about what had happened to him.

Scrolla.Africa discovered that the popular traffic reporter had been yanked off air because he ignored the station management’s request for a meeting.

Msweli is renowned for his witty and hilarious manner when giving updates. His foundation has helped needy communities and through his work he was presented with a 2021 model car by Halfway Ford.

A source revealed: “Ayanda seems to have developed a big head. Since he knows he has millions of fans, he seems to think he’s bigger than the station.

“For nearly a month the management has been unhappy with some of the things they have picked up that are not in line with SABC’s code of conduct which Ayanda has been allegedly doing. Because they value his services they merely wanted to sit down and call him to order.”

Another source added: “To confirm that Ayanda thinks he’s untouchable he did not even travel with the rest of the Ukhozi FM team to a team building exercise in Drakensberg recently. His no show angered the management to the point that they asked him not to go on air.”

Approached for comment, the former metro cop referred this publication to the head of communication at Auckland Park.

SABC’s Gugu Ntuli confirmed Msweli has been suspended but would not be drawn into revealing the reasons behind it.

“It’s a confidential matter between the employee and the public broadcaster,” said Ntuli.
