The talented musician created a worldwide sensation with Water that entered the top 10 in the charts of 30 countries.

The awards celebrating black musicians will be in Mbombela Stadium on Freedom Day, 27 April.

The event has support from the Mpumalanga government and the Motsepe Foundation. Winners get cash prizes, with R50,000 for category wins and R150,000 for Song of the Year.

Kina Nhlengethwa from Metro FM said: “This is a platform where artists, both established and emerging, showcase their passion and talent, igniting a symphony of inspiration and creativity,” The Citizen reports.

“Beyond the glitz and the glamour, these awards embody the relentless pursuit of excellence and the unwavering dedication to craft.”
