Yeni Malatyaspor goalkeeper Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan lost his life in the earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday, the club have announced.

Malatyaspor took to Twitter to share the news of his demise: “Our goalkeeper, Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan, lost his life after being under the collapse of the earthquake. Rest in peace.

“We will not forget you, beautiful person.”

The 28-year-old played twice this season for the second division club. He was one of many victims of the natural disaster that struck Turkey and Syria.

The goalkeeper spent his entire career in his home country, representing Bugsasspor, Osmanlispor and Umraniyespo before making the move to Yeni Malatyaspor.

Turkaslan is survived by his wife Kubra, who escaped from under the rubble of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

Almost 12,000 lives have already been lost as a result of the tragedy, with that number set to increase as more bodies are found.

All professional football in Turkey has been put on hold indefinitely amid the crisis.
