Bafana Bafana will face an angry and desperate Tunisia in their last Africa Cup of Nations Group E match after the North Africans suffered another setback on Saturday.
The Carthage Eagles were held 1-1 by Mali at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly to leave them with just one point from two games.
The result follows the 1-0 defeat to Namibia in their group opener, placing them in a desperate corner ahead of the Bafana match on Wednesday.
It turned out to be a difficult tournament for Tunisia who had to come from behind and settle for a point on Saturday.
The Eagles of Mali had taken a 10th-minute lead from the boot of Lassine Sinayoko before the 2004 African champions replied through Hamza Rafia on 20 minutes.
That left Tunisia in position three on the table while the West Africans remain in charge of the group with four points.
Mali could slide down to second spot should Namibia beat Bafana on Sunday.
The Carthage Eagles could slide down to the bottom of the table in the event of South Africa collecting maximum points from the Brave Warriors.
Tunisia would, however, still remain in with a chance of progressing to the knockouts but they would need to beat Bafana in their final group game.
Going into that last match, they remain desperate, a position they are not used to.
They finished third at the last tournament in Cameroon but sneaked into the Round of 16 via the wild card of being one of the third-best-placed teams.
They went on to reach the quarter-finals.
