Tunisia fail to get the better of Denmark

By Dylan Bettencourt

African hopefuls Tunisia went into their 2022 Fifa World Cup opener against Denmark expected by many to be pushed over.

However, the North Africans stood strong and perhaps should have walked away with all three points on Tuesday afternoon in Qatar.

Tunisia looked at home, on and off the pitch, with the majority of the fans in the Education City Stadium supporting the Africans.

Jalel Kadri’s men were playing free-flowing football all throughout the fixture and allowed Denmark very little time on the ball.

It felt like only a matter of time before Tunisia caused an upset and when they found the back of the net, pure jubilation took over before the side realised the linesman flag was raised.

The Africans pressed the ball vigorously throughout the game and as a result, fatigue settled in towards the end of the game.

Denmark then had the golden chance of taking the lead from the corner when Andreas Christensen headed the ball toward the back post, but nobody from his side managed to get on the end of it.

As the game went on, it looked as if the tournament would get its first stalemate thus far.

That is exactly how it ended up with Tunisia and Denmark playing out to a goalless draw.

Both teams will feel they played well enough to claim victory, but they’ll be concerned that they were unable to convert any of their chances.

Next up for the North Africans is a matchup against Australia on Saturday in what is a must-win before they face France in their final group stage fixture.
