- Four women’s bodies, found burnt near Waltloo and Denneboom stations between June and August, have shocked Tshwane residents.
- Helder Isodro, facing separate murder and rape charges, has no link to the Silverton killings, police have confirmed.
Police are hunting a killer in Tshwane after four women were murdered and their bodies burnt in the Silverton area.
The victims were found near Waltloo and Denneboom train stations between June and August. Their deaths have left residents shaken.
Police have not confirmed if the murders are the work of a serial killer. But they say the suspect is still at large.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said, 36-year-old Helder Isodro is not connected to the killings. The bodies were discovered in June and July, reported The Citizen.
Isodro, from Eersterust, is facing separate charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice and rape. He is accused of killing 30-year-old Loveness Magabe.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana said Isodro abandoned his bail application in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. His case was postponed to 15 October. The rape case will be heard the same day.
Palesa Modise, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for community and social development services, condemned the murders.
“The city is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murders of four women,” she said. “These shocking crimes committed against vulnerable women are a direct insult to our constitutional democracy.”
Modise said Tshwane will launch integrated safety interventions. These include setting up a rapid response task team in Mamelodi and safety audits in Waltloo, Denneboom and other hotspots.
She said the city will also work with the energy and electricity unit to improve lighting and surveillance in high-risk areas.
