Social media went into a frenzy when pictures emerged of Trevor Noah and pop superstar Dua Lipa sharing a kiss on a night out.
But to the disappointment of Mzansi, reports have since indicated the pair are only “friends”.
The South African comedian was pictured having dinner in New York with the famous singer on Wednesday night.
At the end of the night, the pair hugged and kissed on the cheek in photographs published by the Daily Mail, sparking mass rumours of a potential new power couple.
A source close to the celebs revealed however that the pair are “just friends”, People reported.
Noah’s dating rumours came just days after he announced that he would be stepping down from his role with the The Daily Show after hosting the show for seven years.
The 38-year-old did not reveal when his final show will be but explained that he made the decision after realising how much he enjoyed doing stand-up comedy shows.
“I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road. Stand-up was done, and when I got back out there again, I realised that there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring,” Noah told his studio audience late on Thursday.
Previously, Noah was in a relationship with Euphoria actor Minka Kelly.
The couple confirmed their relationship when they vacationed in South Africa last December before calling it quits in May this year.
Dua Lipa, on the other hand, was believed to be in a relationship with model Anwar Hadid before the pair broke up last December.
