Burnley have been relegated from the Premier League following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.
Bafana Bafana forward Lyle Foster lasted 87 minutes in the match away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Clarets were relegated to the Championship with one match remaining before their season ends.
If Foster does not earn a contract with another team in the Premier League, he will play second-tier football next season.
That leaves South Africa without a player in the English top-flight league next term unless another player moves to that league.
Foster remains the Clarets’ joint top goal-scorer in the Premier League this season with five goals together with Moroccan striker Mohamed Amdouni.
For Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, demotion is an opportunity to start all over again.
“I think the overriding feeling is that you’ve lost a football match, that’s number one, that’s always going to make you feel a bit disappointed,” Kompany said on the Burnley website.
“Number two, of course it’s having consequences on where we will play next season so that’s another one you have to live with tonight.”
“I can guarantee you one thing, tomorrow is day one of us being successful again. Tomorrow is day one of the next season for me and our new season starts tomorrow.”
“Today the Premier League is over, but tomorrow is a new day of getting back to the Premier League. I always look to the future as something exciting and so tomorrow will bring exactly that feeling.”
However, the future of Kompany at the club remains a subject of speculation after the relegation.
