• Police found two women dead inside a silver Toyota Avanza with bullet holes and a 36 year old man lying a few metres away.

• The motive for the shooting in Freedom Way, Joe Slovo, is still unknown and no arrests have been made.

Residents of Joe Slovo in Milnerton are reeling after three people were gunned down on Friday night.

Western Cape South African Police Service officers are investigating a triple murder after two women and a man were shot dead in Freedom Way at about 10.30pm.

A resident who was walking home from a tavern said he heard gunshots and immediately ran back.

“I ran back to where I was coming from because I didn’t want to wait and see who was shooting and who was being shot. I didn’t want to be killed by a stray bullet for something I don’t even know,” he said.

When the gunfire stopped, he went to look. He saw two people inside a Toyota Avanza and another person lying outside.

“I don’t know if they were being robbed or they were targeted, but the victim outside the vehicle was the male. If the deceased male was still involved in the taxi industry maybe we could say it has something to do with it, but the problem is that he was not there anymore and the incident has left everyone shocked,” he said.

Western Cape South African Police Service spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said officers found a silver Toyota Avanza with multiple bullet holes when they arrived.

“Inside the vehicle were the bodies of two adult females who were declared deceased on the scene. A few metres away, the body of a 36-year-old male was also found,” said Traut.

A family member told police the man was previously involved in the taxi industry. One of the women is said to have been his girlfriend.

“The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage and the suspects are yet to be apprehended. The case has been assigned to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Detectives for further investigation,” said Traut.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has information to come forward. People can report information anonymously through Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by using the MySAPS mobile application.
