By Anita Dangazele

Police have arrested three suspects believed to be connected to a series of taxi-related murders in East London.

The murders, which occurred between November 2023 and August 2024, claimed the lives of two taxi owners, a driver, and a member of a taxi association.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a police spokesperson, said that two suspects were arrested on Friday at Johannesburg’s Mall of Africa, while the third was arrested in East London on Saturday.

Four persons of interest, seen in a video circulating on social media, were taken in for questioning.

During the arrests, police seized four pistols and an AK-47 rifle. These weapons will undergo testing to determine if they were used in any of the violent crimes.
