‘Those aren’t wings, they’re nuggets!’

Boneless chicken wings have long been controversial, and now a man has taken legal action about the matter.

A man in the United States filed a class-action lawsuit against restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings, claiming their boneless wings were actually made from chicken breasts and resembled chicken nuggets.

He filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to challenge what he claims is “the false and deceptive marketing and advertising of Buffalo Wild Wings’ Boneless Wings”, Insider reported.

Buffalo Wild Wings, however, saw the funny side, and tweeted out a response to the lawsuit.

“It’s true. Our boneless wings are all white meat chicken. Our hamburgers contain no ham. Our buffalo wings are 0% buffalo,” the franchise tweeted.

However, the annoyed American man feels their boneless wings “are not even wings at all”.

“This clear-cut case of false advertising should not be permitted, as consumers should be able to rely on the plain meaning of a product’s name and receive what they are promised,” the lawsuit says.

Buffalo Wild Wings added boneless wings to their menu in 2003 and more recently, in 2019, updated the recipe.

“The chicken is first marinated in a blend of spices, then coated in a savoury new breading,” the company said in the press release.

“With over 30% less breading than before, the larger piece of marinated white chicken packs more flavour into every bite.”

The lawsuit demands an unspecified amount of damages, attorneys’ fees, a jury trial and any other damages that the judge deems fit, court documents indicated.

Next time you bite down on a boneless wing, you might actually just be eating chicken nuggets.
