“They kicked me in my genitals. I asked them about what happens to my children’s rights.”

This video of police dragging this naked man from his shack has already done this:

  • Four cops have been suspended
  • The SA Human Rights Commission says it wants to take the City of Cape Town to court for its eviction policy
  • Housing minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Numsa President Irvin Jim – who posted the video on Twitter – called the incident “inhumane”

Now the victim Bulelani Qholani, a 28-year-old Khayelitsha resident, has appealed to President Cyril Ramaphosa for justice.

Qholani told Newzroom Afrika: “Yesterday when we were fighting, they kicked me in my genitals, they also kicked me on my spinal cord and shoved me onto my bed as they were trying to force me out of the house”.

He added: “I asked them about what happens to my children’s rights. They replied and said they had been sent there by the City of Cape Town and would hold no discussions about it. They said there was nothing to talk about or communicate.”

The incident comes after many incidents of police brutality during the lockdown.
