The Sunrisers Eastern Cape have their sights set on a hatrick of SA20 title wins as the defending champions knocked out the Joburg Super Kings and then the Paarl Royals in Centurion this week.
After losing their first three games, the Eastern Cape franchise stayed true to their name with a remarkable rise in the latter stages of the tournament.
Their third place finish meant that they had a more difficult route to the final than their opponents MI Cape Town, who beat Paarl in qualifier one to progress directly to the final.
Paarl missed their second shot in qualifier two as well, while fourth placed Joburg missed out in the eliminator.
Tony de Zorzi and Jordan Hermann were the stars at SuperSport Park on Thursday, as the top order batters struck 78 and 69 respectively to smoothly complete the 176-run chase against the Royals.
“Very grateful to have been given the opportunity, glad that I repaid the faith,” de Zorzi said as he received his man of the match award.
“I was really excited. Really happy that I got the chance. The coach has been working really hard with me, he said your chance will come. Most of our players are in form.”
The final between the Sunrisers and MI Cape Town takes centre stage from 17:30 on Saturday, live on SuperSport.
