The real Gedleyihlekisa stands up

By Doreen Mokgolo

In the true meaning of his middle name Gedleyihlekisa, the one who stabs you in the back while laughing with you, Jacob Zuma is destroying the ANC to try to save it

During an announcement about his political future on Saturday, Zuma called for millions to vote against the ANC.

In the same speech, he claimed to be a “loyal member of the ANC” and was campaigning against it to save it.

“I will die a member of the ANC but in the coming elections I will vote for uMkhonto We Sizweto to rescue the ANC.”

ANC secretary Fikile Mbalula has announced plans to get the newly registered Umkhonto We Sizwe to be taken off the voter’s roll.

This is exactly what Zuma wants. Zuma is backing the new party, is actively campaigning for it and said he will vote for it.

Zuma has already argued that Umkhonto We Sizwe was never an entity of the ANC.

The matter is likely to end up in court. The ANC said the new party has not only stolen the identity of the MK but its logo as well.

The former president is also fighting to discredit Cyril Ramaphosa within the ANC by making fresh claims that he was an agent of big business.

Zuma, who allowed the Gupta family to influence his decision-making when he was president, now claims the Ramaphosa regime was selling out the ANC programme of improving the lives of ordinary people.

Zuma announced this during the 62 anniversary uMkhonto We Sizwe which was held at the YMCA Orlando East Hall in Soweto on Saturday.

“I have now been told that the ANC of Ramaphosa has decided to vote in favour of the impeachment of Judge President Hlophe and Judge Motata.

“The ANC of Ramaphosa has declared war against progressive black professionals and intellectuals. My conscience will not allow me to lie to the people of South Africa and to pretend that the ANC of Ramaphosa is the ANC of Luthuli, Tambo and Mandela, “he said.

Zuma said the ANC has changed into an organisation that he no longer recognises.

“It is led by some leaders who are behaving in an un-ANC manner that does not reflect the true character and mission of the organisation.”

“As a faithful servant of this organisation, I am taking arms to rescue the ANC and bring it back to the organisation that we know, love and trust. This requires drastic action,” he said.

The former president said he has been a member of both parties for decades.
