She has been witness to hundreds of crime scenes in the line of duty. Now she sings about the evils that are tearing society apart.
Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said she was moved to create her latest gospel album to highlight the plight of children who are kidnapped around Limpopo.
Dineo, born and raised in Willows, Ga-Sekororo outside Tzaneen, released a 12-track gospel album titled Lina Mandla le Ligama in October.
Three years earlier, she released her debut album, Jesus I Want to be Like You, which casts a spotlight on substance abuse.
She described addiction as one of the root causes of social ailments in Black communities.
“Music plays an important role in putting out a message. I chose music to highlight the evils of child molestation and substance abuse and to urge criminals to live a better life,” she said.
Dineo, who is the spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga, said that her heart breaks whenever she receives a report of a missing child.
“Then it is worse when they end up dead later on. It is sad that they are taken away by the people who should be protecting them.”
As well as being a senior cop and an accomplished gospel artist, Dineo is a music teacher and a spiritual leader within the police force. She is also a qualified suicide and hostage negotiator.
Coming from a Christian background, Dineo has navigated through the ranks of provincial chaplain, providing spiritual guidance in the police force.
“My life has never been complete without music and religion. The combination inspires me when I pray for the safety of children and drug addicts.”
