Taxi business leaders called for peace and unity in the industry during the memorial service for taxi boss and construction industry business mogul Jothan “Mswazi” Msibi.
The service was held at Msibi’s home at the Dinokeng Nature Reserve in Tshwane on Friday.
The businessman died in hospital on Sunday after being admitted a few weeks ago after falling ill.
Mandla Gcaba, the co-founder with Msibi of the South African National Taxi Association, said: “Msibi worked hard over the years to bring stability and peace in the taxi industry and worked to turn it into a viable business through the formation of the association.
“It is important to note that without stability there is nothing we will be able to build. It will also erode what we have worked hard for over the years. Ours is to take over the baton and continue building from the foundation he laid and his legacy,” he said.
Gcaba said the position of chairperson of the women’s desk in the taxi association would not exist without the pressure Msibi applied to make it happen.
“He fought for the 30% representation of women in the executive. He encouraged women to stand tall and claim their position in the industry,” he said.
Msibi’s widow Perciah Msibi said her late husband changed her life.
“I am grateful to my husband for his love of family because he encouraged me to rebuild my relationship with my father before he died.
“He taught me not to hold grudges, for that I will forever be grateful for him,” she said.
