The clitoris is the only human organ that has one use: to provide pleasure. And what a lot of pleasure it brings!
The Daily News of the UK reports that researchers from Oregon Health & Science
University have discovered that the clitoris is even more sensitive than we thought.
Their findings suggest the tiny organ contains over 10,000 nerve fibres – 20 per cent more than previously estimated.
“It’s startling to think that more than 10,000 nerve fibres are concentrated in something as small as a clitoris,” said Dr Blair Peters, lead author of the study, said.
The clitoris is made up of nerves that carry electrical impulses between the brain and the rest of the body, which enable women to feel and respond to touch.
What many people – especially men – don’t know is that while the tip of the clitoris is found outside the body, much of the organ is located internally.
Previous studies on animals have predicted that the clitoris contains around 8,000 nerve fibres.
But in the new study, researchers set out to see if this count was accurate when performed on humans.
Next up the team is going to study the number of nerve fibres in the tip of the penis – which, if you didn’t know, induces pleasure in men.
