It was an intense encounter that had absolutely everything as a Mohamed Salah strike stole the show when Liverpool beat Manchester City 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday. The title race starts now!
The hosts took their time to seize control in the game, with Pep Guardiola’s side having the better chances in the opening exchanges.
Erling Haaland sent a header straight at Alisson and Ilkay Gundogan tested the Brazilian too, but it remained goalless at the break.
Salah saw a one-on-one stopped by the finest of margins and that may have come back to bite them had Phil Foden’s goal stood minutes later.
The England international finished off Haaland’s rebound, but the goal was chalked off for a foul in the build-up.
The cagey nature of the first period was cancelled out in the second as the chances came thick and fast for both sides.
It was the 77th minute that proved the decisive one though, as Salah turned past Joao Cancelo to latch on to an Alisson through ball. The Egyptian placed it past Ederson and Anfield erupted!
It was a long final 10 minutes for the Reds with Jurgen Klopp’s touchline antics seeing him sent off. His side held on to claim an important win for their season, though, going within 10 points of the champions with a game in hand.
