PICK OF THE SPORTS: Dylan Bettencourt looks ahead to the weekend’s sporting events, with the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Awcon) the pick of the bunch.
➤ Following the men’s Afcon earlier this year, the national female football teams now take centre stage to battle it out for Africa’s biggest title.
Nigeria once again head into the tournaments as favourites, having won the previous three editions of the tournament.
The Awcon will also be making a return following a lengthy period of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last edition was held in 2018.
Hosts Morocco will kick off the tournament with a tough test against Burkina Faso on Saturday night at 10.30pm.
Sunday will see six teams in action as Senegal face Uganda at 5pm followed by Cameroon against Zambia at 7pm.
The day will be rounded off by Tunisia up against Togo at 10pm.
Monday, however, is perhaps the biggest game of the tournament when Nigeria take on South Africa in a repeat of the 2018 final.
The mammoth clash is set for Monday night at 10pm.

➤ Formula 1 returns with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, with Red Bull looking to make it seven victories in a row.
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have proven to be dominant this season and another triumph could all but put the final outcome of the championship beyond doubt, as Red Bull appear to be set to win their first constructor’s title in nearly a decade.
An improving Mercedes team with two British drivers will however look to spoil the Red Bull parade and win their home Grand Prix once again.
Last year Mercedes victory seemed a destined reality but that now looks like an unrealistic dream.
The British Grand Prix is set for lights out at 4pm on Sunday, live on DStv channel 215.
➤ The Springboks are back in action for the first time this year in a three-match series against Wales.
The South African national rugby team will take to the field for the first time this year when they face Wales at Loftus Versfeld this Saturday.
The current World Cup champions look favourites to brush aside the Welsh Dragons with most experts expecting the visitors to return to Wales empty handed.
The first Springbok clash of the year is a sell-out in Pretoria and is scheduled to kickoff at 5pm on Saturday, live on DStv channel 201 and 211.
➤ Look forward to a feast of international rugby this Saturday that will satisfy the most voracious of appetites.
If you truly love the sport, you can start your day (at 8am) with Japan versus the French, and then settle down to watch some of the great international rugby contests that have happened for about the last century. New Zealand take on Ireland, Australia host England during the morning.
Then there is the shortest of breaks to have a snack or to buy beer before South Africa take on Wales in Bloemfontein at 5pm. If you still want more, you can watch Argentina play Scotland at 9pm.
