The ANC are exploiting women to fight their political battles – SACP

The South African Communist Party (SACP) leaders in KwaZulu-Natal have accused the ANC of using women and exploiting them in their political battles.

Speaking during the SACP’s 100 birthday celebration in Glencoe on Sunday, SACP provincial secretary, Themba Mthembu said women should be careful of the abuse they are facing in the ANC.

“They are being used to create divisions in the organisation,” said Mthembu.

“Those men who always claim to be fighting for the rights of women in the party are the ones who exploit women to create division in the party.”

Mthembu did not specify how women are being used.

SACP also questioned the presence of women in the candidate selection process as in most cases the men emerge as the winners in the candidate list selections.

“We have realised that in every branch meeting to elect candidates, women always withdraw. I think they are being threatened or something. That is why we have more male candidates than women. This needs to be addressed as soon as possible,” said Mthembu.

He emphasised the importance of the SACP in the ANC.

They also used the birthday to talk about the issue of water shortages in UMzinyathi district where the commemoration was held.

Cosas chairperson, Jabulisa Mchunu said the district municipality failed to fulfill its mandate of water distribution and schools in Msinga, Nquthu, Dundee, Glencoe and other areas are suffering because of the shortage.

UMzinyathi district has explained that they are trying to solve the problems.
