Bafana Bafana football player and international star Ayanda Patosi is in trouble with his club, Foolad FC, in Iran after reportedly being late for pre-season camp last month.
The left-footed attacking midfielder has been plying his trade at the club since 2019 following a stellar season with Cape Town City.
Reports in Iran say Patosi has been ordered to train alone pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against him, since this was not the first time he had broken the team’s rules.
It has been reported that the 30-year-old wants out of the club as he has received lucrative offers back home in the DStv Premiership in South Africa.
In an official statement, Foolad FC says the club’s disciplinary committee will make a decision regarding Patosi’s misconduct.
Following a break during the World Cup, the Khuzestan Football team’s training was held in Ahvaz on 24 November and then in Dubai.
“Considering the history of this player and his presence in the pre-season camp after being absent in the first three camps, at the discretion of the head coach of the team, he will follow the training individually so that the irregularity of this player will be followed up through the disciplinary committee of the club,” the statement said.
Since joining the club two years ago, Patosi has played a hand in 28 goals, scoring 18 and assisting in 10 other goals in 82 appearances across all competitions.
Before switching to Iran, he had a brief stint with Baniyos in Abu Dhabi. He made his name in Belgium turning out for Lokeren in the top-flight division. He has also earned 12 caps for Bafana Bafana.
