A successful title defence in the most dominant of big game performances was the case for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape as they beat the Durban Super Giants in the Betway SA20 final on Saturday.

Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bat first for the Sunrisers. The skipper hit 42 with the bat while Jordan Hermann (42), Tom Abell (57) and Tristan Stubbs (56) all contributed, too, helping the Eastern Cape side to 204/3 in their 20 overs.

With a second consecutive title in their sights, the bowlers ensured a well-rounded performance as they dismissed Durban for just 115 after the break.

Marco Jansen was the second innings king, taking 5/30 to help wrap things up quickly in Newlands.

The Super Giants’ Heinrich Klaasen was named batsman and player of the season while Sunrisers’ Ottniel Baartman took home the best bowler award.

The curtains were drawn on another season of the highly successful competition, which saw houseful arenas with hyped up supporters and breathtaking cricketing action.

In a T20 Cricket World Cup year, all eyes will next turn to the Indian Premier League which kicks off in March.
