Mamelodi Sundowns are on the brink of winning their seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title after a 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane on Monday.
The win would have eased some pain after their recent elimination from the CAF Champions League semi-finals by ES Tunis.
Veteran striker Bernard Parker returned to TS Galaxy’s lineup after recovering from a severe injury sustained in October 2023. Despite his efforts, Parker had a penalty saved by Sundowns’ goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
Sundowns went into the match with six of their crucial players not available due to injuries. These included key figures such as Rushine De Reuck and Teboho Mokoena.
Peter Shalulile ended his seven-match goal drought in the league by scoring two goals in the first half.
Coming off the bench, Thembinkosi Lorch sealed the victory with a third goal in the 64th minute, making sure that Sundowns kept their comfortable lead and moved closer to another league title.
The match also saw Galaxy’s Orobotse Mongae receive a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Bongani Zungu who had to leave the field due to the injury.
With just three points needed to clinch the title, Sundowns’ next fixture could potentially be a championship-deciding match against Kaizer Chiefs.
