Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Rulani Mokwena, criticised match officials after a 2-2 draw against Moroka Swallows on Monday night.

The DStv Premiership match, held at Dobsonville Stadium, ended in a stalemate, but not without controversy.

Mokwena specifically targeted referee Jelly Chavani for his decision to allow two Swallows goals, which Mokwena claims were offside.

Despite maintaining their undefeated league status with this result having won 16 and drawn 5 out of 21 matches, Mokwena voiced concern over the quality of refereeing in the country.

He spoke on his expertise in the laws of the game, questioning the decision-making process of the officials during the game, especially regarding the controversial goals.

He sympathised with coaches who have voiced similar complaints about officiating standards. He pointed out the potential consequences for teams like Richards Bay, which could face relegation by a narrow margin influenced by refereeing decisions.

Sundowns’s run of poor form continues with the side next in action in the CAF Champions League semi-finals on Saturday against ES Tunis.
