Justin Bieber’s Justice Tour is coming to South Africa next month, and has forced the Stormers out of their home in Cape Town.
The Eastern Cape club will be forced to play some of their United Rugby Championship (URC) home games in Stellenbosch and Gqeberha instead of Cape Town.
The current URC champions will play three of their home games at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch and one at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha while the American pop sensation occupies their home ground.
Besides Bieber’s Cape Town concert on 28 September, the Cape Town Sevens and the Monster Jam truck show were events that had already pre-booked the DHL Stadium for dates during this season.
This means that the Stormers’ first two games against Connacht (24 September) and Edinburgh (1 October) will be played in Stellenbosch as construction for the singer’s highly anticipated concert begins in the Mother City. And their round nine game against the Dragons will be played in Gqeberha due to the Sevens.
The Stormers will then continue to play in Cape Town before the final game against Italian side Benetton (21 April 2023) shifts back to the Danie Craven Stadium on Monster Jam weekend.
“While every effort was made to avoid these clashes, the events at DHL Stadium had been booked up to a year in advance, while the United Rugby Championship fixtures could only be confirmed recently,” the club announced.
