Spurs dabble with SA and the lights go out!

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 4-1 Premier League defeat to Leicester City just as talk of a potential sponsorship deal with South Africa began.

An opportunity to go into the top four loomed following their win against champions Manchester City, but Antonio Conte’s men now have a lot more to worry about than their failed agreement with SA Tourism.

An early goal from Rodrigo Bentancur laid the platform for what might have been a good away day for Spurs, but Brendan Rodgers’ men had other plans.

Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho made it 3-1 to the Foxes at half time — and the visitors had no response in the tank.

Despite scoring 20 times in 19 games against Leicester, five times more than his record against any other club, Harry Kane looked far from the man that broke records a week ago.

The England captain led Tottenham out at the King Power Stadium in the absence of their injured skipper Hugo Lloris and things could not have gone any worse.

The hosts dominated the game in terms of real goal scoring opportunities, and Harvey Barnes put the icing on the cake with a lovely finish in the final ten minutes.

It was a bad day for all of North London with Arsenal only managing a draw against Brentford at the Emirates in one of the other afternoon clashes.

Manchester City now have the chance to go within three points of the top when they host Aston Villa on Sunday.

A Newcastle win over Bournemouth in Saturday’s late game will also see the Geordies go four points clear of Spurs in fourth, with a game in hand over Conte’s side.
