Tottenham Hotspur continued with their steady rise with a 2-0 home win over Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.
They are making their intentions clear: they want nothing less than to win the English Premiership League (EPL), which they last won 59 years ago.
It only took the North Korean star Son Heung-Min 13 minutes to find the back of the net and unsettle the visitors early in the match. The gunners were unable to recover and always looked second best.
Things took a turn for the worse for the visitors shortly before the break. They relaxed, accepting they would be a goal down.
Spurs captain Harry Kane however had other ideas. He put his team further ahead just seconds before half time to give Spurs a comfortable lead.
Ahead of this match Kane was a doubtful starter due to injury. The striker has been in fine form under the mentorship of Jose Mourinho.
Before this season Kane was reported to be on his way out of Spurs after a fallout with Mourinho last season with Manchester United and Real Madrid waiting in the wings to sign him. The Spurs board convinced him to stay, and it has made a new man out of him this season.
Kane’s winning goal has seen Spurs cementing their place on top of the EPL with 24 points in 11 matches. Arsenal, however are left with lots of work to do if they want to finish in the top four and play in the Uefa Champions League next season.
They are 11 points behind Spurs and dropped to 15th place after their defeat today. As for their coach Mike Arteta, he could well be on his way out of Emirates Stadium after this defeat.
