When it came to choosing our sports personality of the year one name stood out above all others and made the selection easy.
Pitso ‘Jingles’ Mosimane is generally regarded as the most successful soccer coach in South African history if not in African football history.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor is the first African coach to win five trophies with two different teams in a single year.
On 5 September 2020, Mosimane won the Absa Premiership title for the third time in a row for Mamelodi Sundowns.
At one point Sundowns were 13 points behind Kaizer Chiefs who were on top of the log the entire season only to lose the league title on the last day of the season.
On 12 September he also won the Nedbank Cup for his club beating Bloemfontein Celtic. On 30 September, however, Mosimane was announced as the head coach of the Egyptian club Al Ahly.
A month after his arrival in Egypt he clinched the Egyptian Premier League title. On 27 November, Mosimane led Al Ahly to their ninth CAF Champions league title, after winning against their rivals Zamalek.
On 5 December he was at it again lifting his third trophy for his new team after defeating Tala’ea El Gaish to win the Egypt Cup.
