As the competition for the Big Brother Mzansi: Umlilo title gets intense, supporters are flooding social media with campaigns for their favourite contestants. But one group has caught the attention of media personality Somizi Mhlongo—fans of Sweet Guluva.
Somizi recently called them out for their aggressive approach, saying they were harming their favourite’s chances by constantly pushing their campaign.
In a video, he admitted he doesn’t watch the show but found their tactics annoying.
“You are actually ruining his chances because you’re being annoying. Every time we post something, you impose your campaign.
Sweet Guluva might lose because of you,” he said, urging them to stop hijacking his posts.
The debate soon took over TikTok, where reactions were mixed. Some mocked Somizi’s frustration, with one user joking, “When you’re done playing Beyoncé, make sure you vote for Sweet Guluva, okay my angel.”
Others defended the fans, saying viewers of IdolsSA also voted even if they didn’t watch the show. But some agreed with Somizi, happy that someone had finally spoken up.
Sweet Guluva, whose real name is Akhonamathemba Mbele, has reached the top five of Big Brother Mzansi: Umlilo. His dedicated supporters are constantly tagging celebrities and public figures to get more votes for him.
He is up against Fortunate ‘Nate’ Setwaba, Uyanda Hlangabezo, Nsuku Mabunda, and Karabo ‘Jojo’ Sejojo for the R2-million prize.
On X (formerly Twitter), the debate continued, with some supporting Somizi’s stance while others doubled down on their campaign efforts, showing just how loyal Sweet Guluva’s fans are.
