- Popular actor Skhumbuzo Mbatha was caught driving drunk at a Johannesburg roadblock with alcohol levels above the legal limit.
- The Skeem Saam star and radio presenter was released on R1,500 bail and will appear in court this week.
Skeem Saam actor and Thobela FM radio presenter Skhumbuzo Mbatha spent Saturday night behind bars after police caught him driving drunk in Johannesburg.
JMPD officers stopped Mbatha at a roadblock in Parktown between Barry Hertzog Avenue and Napier Road.
The star, who plays Meneer Manaka in the popular soapie, was driving a white Nissan Navara around 8:30pm when officers smelled alcohol on his breath.
A breathalyser test showed he was over the limit at 0.51 mg/l. Officers then took him for a blood test before handing him over to the police at Parkwood police station.
He was charged with driving under the influence and was later freed on R1,500 bail, Zimoja reported.
Mbatha, who also co-presents the Ntshirogele show on Thobela FM, has not answered calls or messages about his arrest.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said she would only confirm case details the next day.
Mbatha will face a judge this week.
