- Six people were killed in three separate murder cases across Gqeberha in less than 48 hours with no arrests made yet.
- Another businessman was kidnapped in the Korsten area adding to city’s crime wave just days after elderly woman was also taken.
Police in Gqeberha are dealing with an increase in violent crime after three separate murders and another kidnapping in less than 48 hours.
On Wednesday night, police were called to Orego Street in Fairview, Gqeberha, after reports of gunshots.
The front fence was broken and the lounge window was smashed. Inside a bedroom, officers found the bodies of three men with multiple gunshot and head wounds. The killers had fled, and the motive is still unknown. The victims’ names will be released once their families have been informed.
In Walmer Township, a 25-year-old man was beaten to death next to a tavern on Wednesday evening. He had severe injuries to his face and head. Police have opened a murder case, but the attackers remain at large.
Meanwhile, in the early hours of Thursday morning, police in Despatch responded to a shooting in Dukubana Street, Kingstown. Two men were found dead from gunshot wounds. Officers have started searching for the killers, but no arrests have been made.
Adding to the city’s fears, another kidnapping was reported on Wednesday afternoon. A person was taken in Nielson Street, Neave Industrial Area, in Korsten. No ransom has been demanded yet. Sources say a businessman was taken by several suspects using more than one vehicle.
This comes just days after 73-year-old Theresa Minnie was abducted from her home in Kariega. Her case is now being handled by the Hawks.
