- Doctor Ntando Duze received death threats warning him to drop a legal case against a patient who attacked his name.
- The hospital stopped the doctor from working in July 2025 after a television show aired serious claims about his work.
A Durban heart doctor is living in fear after unknown people killed the sheriff hired to deliver his court papers.
Doctor Ntando Duze works at Life Westville Hospital. He hired a sheriff named Andy Ngcobo to deliver court papers to a patient named Jeffery Chetty. Unknown people killed Ngcobo in Inanda on Friday.
Duze says people are threatening his life. They told him to drop his legal case against Chetty or they will kill him.
“I am very concerned that I am being threatened to drop the case,” Duze said.
“I won’t stop fighting against those who degraded my name on national television with unfounded allegations. This shows that I am facing dangerous people who can take my life at any time,” he said.
The hospital suspended Duze in July 2025. This happened after the television show Carte Blanche aired serious claims against him. The show accused him of doing bad medical work and harming patients.
The Health Professions Council of South Africa is investigating the complaints. Duze tried to stop the television show from airing his story. He went to the Pietermaritzburg High Court, but the court said the public had a right to know.
His lawyers say the claims are false. They say other doctors are jealous of his success and plotted against him.
The fight has affected his patients. Other doctors at the hospital are refusing to help Duze’s patients. Many sick people have been moved to other hospitals to get care.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers are investigating the threats. He said Duze opened an intimidation case at the uMbilo Police Station.
