Sheffield United relegated, Burnley fight another day

The bottom of the Premier League table saw some more twists and turns on Saturday as Sheffield United were officially relegated after their 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

It was a miserable record and forgettable afternoon for Chris Wilder’s side on Tyneside as Aleksander Isak struck twice while Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson also found the back of the net.

The Magpies have scored 13 league goals against Sheffield this season, the most by one team against another in a single campaign in the competition’s history.

The defeat leaves Sheffield winless in 11 games with four consecutive losses on the board, sending them down to the Championship after just one year in the top tier of English football.

Sheffield also set a new record for most goals conceded in a 38 game Premier League campaign, allowing 97 goals in 35 games thus far.

Also in the battle for survival, Luton Town were dealt a blow at Molineux as Wolves beat them 2-1 with Hee Chan Hwang and Toti Gomes netting for the hosts before Carlton Morris got a consolation for Luton.

Burnley, on the other hand, rescued a massive point from Old Trafford as Zeki Amdouni scored late on from the spot to cancel out Antony and Manchester United’s lead.

Nottingham Forest will have an opportunity to widen their gap from the drop should they get some unlikely points against champions Manchester City on Sunday evening.

Any errors at the top will be closely examined as North London plays host to derby day between Spurs and Arsenal in the earlier action.
