  • Police arrest rapper Lehlogonolo Chauke, known as Shebeshxt, in Polokwane over a road rage shooting that left a man critical.
  • The victim’s family accuse police of favouring the star after his release, saying they will fight for justice in court.

Police arrested popular Limpopo rapper Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, better known as Shebeshxt, at his home in Bendor, Polokwane, early on Wednesday morning.

Officers from the provincial investigation and tracking units arrived before dawn with a warrant for his arrest linked to an attempted-murder case.

The case comes from a violent road rage clash on 19 October in Ladanna, Polokwane. Police say it began as a shouting match between two motorists at a petrol station on Witklip Street but ended in gunfire.

According to police, the other driver stepped out to confront the rapper. Shebeshxt allegedly pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the man in the stomach.

The victim remains in intensive care in a critical condition.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the arrest, saying the case was now with the Murder and Robbery Unit under Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe.

He said detectives were gathering CCTV footage and witness statements. “The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests or charges cannot be ruled out,” said Ledwaba.

Shebeshxt had earlier handed himself over with his lawyers and was released while investigations continued. The victim’s family said they were angry at what they called “special treatment” for the musician.
