- Police say Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, is a person of interest in the Limpopo road rage shooting on Tuesday night.
- The victim’s family in Polokwane accuse police of favouring Shebeshxt after he was released soon after handing himself over to detectives.
Popular Limpopo rapper Shebeshxt is back in the spotlight for the wrong reasons — this time accused of shooting a man during a road rage fight.
According to Sunday World, the drama started when Shebeshxt, real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, and another motorist argued over bad driving on a busy Polokwane street.
The two men traded insults until Shebeshxt pulled into a petrol station.
The other driver followed, parked, and got out of his car.
Witnesses say Shebeshxt also got out, walked up to him and allegedly shot him in the chest. The man collapsed, and Shebeshxt drove away.
The victim is now fighting for his life in ICU at a hospital in Polokwane.
A source told Sunday World that the matter was reported to the Westenburg Police Station and a case of attempted murder was opened.
Shebeshxt later handed himself over to the police through his lawyers and was detained briefly.
But detectives from Limpopo’s provincial police headquarters reportedly arrived soon after and released the rapper.
They said the murder and robbery unit is now handling the case.
The victim’s family is furious about Shebeshxt’s release and has warned they might take matters into their own hands if justice isn’t served.
The same source said the family hopes the shooting was in self-defence — and that the weapon was legal — or else Shebeshxt could face serious jail time.
Police say investigations are ongoing and that they need time to finish gathering evidence. An arrest is expected soon.
