Actor Thembinkosi Mthembu has officially ended his run on Shaka iLembe after delivering a powerful and emotional final performance in episode seven.
He played King Dingiswayo, who was killed in a brutal scene where he was trampled by cattle, while Zwide (played by Wiseman Mncube) and his mother Ntombazi (Khabonina Qubeka) looked on.
Shaka (played by Lemogang Tsipa) arrived too late to save his mentor and was left heartbroken and furious.
Thembinkosi’s performance throughout the season has earned him widespread praise. In October, he was awarded Best Actor in a TV Drama at the 18th South African Film and Television Awards.
Following the episode, fans and fellow actors flooded social media with tributes to his performance.
Actor Bonko Khoza said he had admired Thembinkosi since his role as Mabutho and called him one of the best actors of his generation. “You inspire us,” he wrote.
Luthando “BU” Mthembu, who stars alongside Thembinkosi in Adulting, added: “We are proud, Ngoza. We beat our chests about you.”
